Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
Lighthouse school is a unique school with an emphasis on the wellbeing and progress of every student. We are guided by our values in everything we do, and we are committed to inspiring and enabling our students, delivering meaningful skills for life in a holistic, nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
Our vision is to create a rich culture of diversity and inclusion within our community where all members are valued for their contribution and to ensure that these commitments, reinforced by our values, are embedded in our day to day working practices within the school community and the wider community.
The Equality Act 2010 was introduced to ensure protection from discrimination, harassment and victimisation and the framework supports our commitment to valuing diversity and promoting equality for all our stakeholders.
We encourage positive behaviour, and tackle inequality as a school community by challenging all forms of negative behaviours and ideas.
Our Duty - Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)
As a school, our duty is:
- To meet the statutory duties of the Equality Act 2010
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act via the school’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy;
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not;
- Foster good relations between those who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
- Promote equality of opportunity and outcomes for all
We meet our duty through all our major decision making, policy reviews and review our equality information on an annual basis.
Equality Objectives
Our objectives focus on our commitment to actively seek to become a champion of equality and diversity by embedding and promoting equality and diversity as the golden thread across the school and wider community.
In accordance with the Public Sector Equality Duty, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion objectives are published below.
Accessibility Plan
We endeavour to treat all students fairly and with respect. The purpose of this plan is to increase the extent to which students with disabilities can participate in the curriculum, improve the physical environment of the school so all students’ needs are fully met and they achieve their potential and improve the availability of accessible information for students with disabilities.
Our school’s Student Council have been consulted during the development and finalisation of this Accessibility Plan.
