Beacon Family Support
Beacon
Parents and carers are encouraged to play a key part in our school community and to form a close relationship with us at Lighthouse School.
Family Support - Beacon
As a school community we embrace that family support helps enhance our students’ development. Beacon is the umbrella title for family support in school. We wish to be a ‘beacon’ for families and help navigate and signpost support available. Beacon will be a place for families to be able to access:
- Signposting
- Support from other parents
- Social events
- Parent Hub information session
- Facebook Group just for Lighthouse School parents and carers
- Lighthouse School Facebook Update Page
Teen Life parent support programme – National Autistic Society
The Teen Life Programme is a six-week parent support programme which runs weekly from the Lighthouse School training suite. The programme’s interactive sessions allow you to explore your child’s Autism and support strategies. The programme allows you to request a supporting professional e.g. School staff, PA, support staff to attend the sessions with you and be part of the discussions around your child.
Details about the events from Beacon will be listed in the school newsletter and also will be sent out to parents and carers via email, text and letter. The sessions will run at school in our training room.
Parental Support
It is important that the skills students are taught at school are practised at home, where possible. Training can be provided for parents and carers to understand the techniques used in school. This ensures that parents and carers can support their child in transferring their learning into home and community settings. This is particularly important with social, communication, and life skills.
Parents and carers are also provided with support on coping strategies to manage some of the more challenging behaviors associated with autism.
